Yesterday we spent 8 hours with all the other productions preparing our venue - the Dorothy B Williams performance space - at the HERE Arts Center for the New York International Fringe Festival that opens this week. It was no surprise to me that I'm quite hopeless at climbing ladders and hanging lights but fortunately Taylor our stage manager and board operator was on hand with her tools! I would have happily skipped the day and just turned up for tech rehearsal, but it has give me a newfound admiration for all that goes into preparing a theatre space - I had no idea.
